St Barbara Commemoration 2024

 Northern Gunners… Cadet to Vet paraded at Gateshead Army Reserve Centre to        commemorate St Barbara, the patron Saint of Artillerymen. 



Serving members of 101 Regiment RA were joined by Royal Artillery Association veterans and cadets from the Gunner sponsored detachments of Northumbria ACF, Durham ACF together with cadets from the Combined Cadet Force.

The salute was taken by His Majesty’s Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Tyne and Wear, Lieutenant General Robin Brims CB, CBE, DSO, DL  representing the King, the Captain General of the Royal Regiment of Artillery.

During the service which remembered fallen Gunners, wreaths were laid by the Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Tyne and Wear, the Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Northumberland,  Commanding Officer 101 Regiment RA, Mayor of Gateshead and Commandant  Northumbria Army Cadet Force.

101 RA MLRS 25

 


In 1998, 101 Regiment converted to MLRS and fired that artillery system for the first time during annual camp. Twenty Five years later the Regiment is the Royal Artillery’s most  experienced operators of MLRS and critical to the British Army’s fighting power.

Saint Barbara Commemoration 2023


 
Serving members of 101 (Northumbrian) Regiment RA, Royal Artillery Association  branches affiliated to 101, and Gunner cap badged cadets paraded before the Lord Lieutenant of Tyne and Wear to commemorate the Patron Saint of the Royal Regiment of Artillery, St Barbara.

A service of remembrance was held to remember the Northern Gunners who had lost their lives in conflict. 


The wintry weather precluded the service being held in the planned location of Tynemouth Priory, and the proceedings were moved indoors to the Tynemouth Army Reserve Centre. The Commanding Officer and Regimental Sergeant Major of 101 RA laid a wreath at the Gunner Memorial in Tynemouth Priory after the service.

UKAF RFC - Armed Forces Day Kingston Park 2023

 The UK Armed Forces Rugby team played in a charity match at Kingston Park Stadium on Armed Forces Day 2023.  The Armed Forces rugby team was selected from all three Armed Services. They played a North East Select XV which drew players from Championship and National League teams through out the north.

The event included military stands from all the Armed Services including a team from 101 Regiment Royal Artillery.

The North Select XV dominated the early part of the match taking a 14– to nil lead. The Military XV fought back to lead 24 to 19 at half time.  In the second half the North Select XV dominated with the final score being 42-24 in favour of the Select team.

NORTHERN GUNNERS ST BARBARA COMMEMORATION

 The Northern Gunners of 101 (Northumbrian) Regiment Royal Artillery paraded with their affiliated Royal Artillery Association Branches and sponsored Gunner cap badged Army Cadets at Tynemouth Castle to commemorate the Patron Saint of Gunners, St Barbara.


In attendance were the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Tyne and Wear, Vice Lord Lieutenant of Northumberland and Elected Mayor of North Tyneside. The Honorary Colonel and Commanding Officer of 101 RA joined the civic dignitaries to take the salute of the marching contingents.

A commemoration service was conducted by Padre 101 Regiment RA with addresses by the Commanding Officer on the tradition of St Barbara, and from the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Tyne and Wear on the importance of the Regimental Family, Cadet to Vet.
