ROYAL ARTILLERY

The Royal Artillery know as the 'Gunners' was formed on 26th May 1716.

King George I issued a Royal Warrant authorising the formation of a permanent artillery force of two companies in Woolwich.

In 1832 William I granted the Royal Artillery the motto UBIQUE in recognition of services across the world and participation in virtually every major battle.

The Royal Horse Artillery was formed in 1793 to provide artillery support to cavalry units of the British Army.

MASTER GUNNER OF ST JAMES

The Master Gunner of St James Park is head of the Royal Regiment of Artillery. The Master Gunner is the channel of communication between the Regiment and the Captain General.
